Bio

There is only one way to define Jonny Cat's music...timeless. He is a visionary artist with a completely unique style. Composing many different genres of music including Blues, Rock N' Roll, Gypsy Jazz, Swing Jazz, Traditional Persian, Classical, Flamenco, Folk, he sometimes juxtaposes them all together to create a beautiful fusion of oneness. Jonny started playing piano from the age of seven and was accepted to perform at recitals all over California. He started playing the violin and became first chair in his school's orchestra. When he got to high school, Jonny began playing the electric guitar and started a Bluesy Rock band called "Jack Rabbit Slims".

Then came San Francisco. After high school, Jonny Cat went to study film at SF state and eventually joined the Jugtown Pirates, an Americana bluegrass ensemble, playing piano. Eventually he left the band and started the Sufis,  a well known Gypsy Jazz band with under tones of tradtional Persian Sufi music. The band had 4 members with upright bass, drums, a female vocalist, and Jonny playing guitar, piano, singing, and writing the songs. During this time he would also record his first solo album on 2 "inch tape at Radical Sound Studios with Producer Charles Gonzalez. He played all the instruments on the songs. Some popular tunes that come from the album, "Mr. Cat, were "Peach Bottom Baby", "Take Me Down" and "Boogie Woogie Baby".

While Jonny was playing around with his band of blue gypsies, he started a boiler-pot rock r roll group called the Coo Coo Birds which is his main project today. In the band he is the frontman, singing, playing guitar, piano, and wrinting most of the material. So far he has recorded 3 albums with them, one of which was produced by Jack White's sound engineer Adam Hill at Ardent Studios in Memphis.

These days Jonny spends his time touring around the world playing shows, recording both with his band the Coo Coo Birds and his solo work with producers around the Bay Area.  He has also licensed his songs on TV commercials, online ads, and films with companies such as GoPro, Mini Cooper, Forever 21, Roxy, Oakley, Fox Racing, and a few others.
